Shamanic Dreams & Dreaming

The entire essence of shamanism and shamanic dreaming are waking dreams, or conscious dreaming. Completely alien to lucid dreaming, which we can all do whilst sound asleep in our bed. Shamanic dreaming involves entering into the world of spirit from a waking and fully concious state. Being able to be in two worlds at once is a crucial element for any shaman wishing to perform shamanic healing successfully.

Shamanic dreams would carry little purpose if the shaman in question were to be in a fully trance like state, unaware of the real world around him ... what use would he then be to the person still grounded in reality?

Being able to dream shamanically is an art whilst being concious, and takes years of practice to perfect. Most shaman normally cover their eyes during a shamanic trance to allow them to see the spirits more clearly and to focus fully on the journey to and from the spirit world. However, shamanic dreaming whilst maintaining a lucid conversation with another is ultimately the goal of all shaman.

Let's be honest about this, if you were in need of real assistance on any level and suddenly the shaman ahead of you were to start wrapping their eyes or maybe start banging a drum, smoke a pipe, rattle and fan you, most of the time you would think that person a complete idiot, especially if not of native origin where such practices are common place and accepted.

Shamanic dreaming is performed worldwide by many shaman, especially in experiences where the shaman does not wish to scare his potential client with the 'normally accepted' stranger aspects of his connection with spirit. It is a very powerful shamanic tool where the shaman performs a shamanic healing or soul retrieval whilst apparently 'having a chat' with his client.

The shaman dreams his way into spirit, a very similar experience to day dreaming, and joins his soul with that of the client before him (her), thus allowing a two fold conversation to take place. The first between the shaman and client, the second between the shaman and the clients spirit. The latter of the two being the true conversation to the shamans mind.

In spirit or shamanic dreaming the shaman returns information to the client to assist them in finding answers to previously hidden questions. These could be associated with previously suppressed emotions or traumatic experiences where a part of the clients soul could be feeling lost or lonely.

The shaman will sit quietly in spirit and soothe the lost or damaged soul and encourage it to return to the client with reassurance and love. Once this task is complete, the shaman will return from his shamanic dreaming and fully return to the real world and enjoy the soul before him.
